Do you need a permit to replace a roof in Tacoma?

Pierce County exempts re-roofing a house or private garage on a slope steeper than 2:12 when the total weight of all roof coverings stays at or below 7.5 pounds per square foot. The exemption does not apply if roof sheathing is replaced.
